The Mound City Panthers go for their second consecutive state championship in Missouri 8-man football at 9:30 a-m ( this / Friday ) morning at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. You will be able to hear the game live on SUNNY 101.3 beginning with pre-game coverage at 9 a-m followed by the kickoff at 9:30.
This years opponent for the Panthers is very familiar. St. Joe Christian hosted the Panthers in the season opener this year and Mound City won 37-0. The same two squads met for the title last year in a game won by Mound City 48-16.
Lions Coach Mark Juhl commented on the Mound City defense which is allowing an average of less than 7 points per game to again lead the state this season. ( play audio :39 seconds )
Coach Juhl also has concerns in how to stop an offensive attack that is capable of both running and throwing the ball. ( play audio :56 seconds )
At the start of the season most people assumed that Mound City had lost so much talent from last years squad that they would not be a title contender in 2009. Coach Brian Messer said he hopes his team will show they deserve to be in the title game. ( play audio :08 seconds )
Coach Messer said the Panthers only loss this year by two points to Worth County helped the team refocus on getting better every week. ( play audio :24 seconds )
With St. Joe Christian having some injury problems and a habit of moving players around in the skill positions, Coach Messer says it can be difficult to prepare for the Lions. ( play audio :17 seconds )
Join us for the Mound City vs. St. Joe Christian title game beginning with pre-game coverage at 9 a-m this ( Friday ) morning on SUNNY 101.3.
