A pair of surprise Big 12 teams will lock horns in the first-ever battle of top-10 teams of NCAA Division I men’s or women’s basketball inside the state of Nebraska, when No. 4 Nebraska takes on No. 10 Oklahoma State tonight at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Tip-off between the Huskers (19-0, 6-0 Big 12) and Cowgirls (18-3, 6-1 Big 12) is set for 7:05 p.m. You can hear the game live on SUNNY 101.3 and on A-M 1230, KTNC with pre-game coverage at 6:45 p-m.
Only one time in school history (men’s or women’s) has a Nebraska basketball team played in a game that featured two top teams, as the No. 8 Husker men faced No. 6 Kansas in Lawrence on Feb. 26, 1966. The 2009-10 Husker women enter the game with their highest national ranking in school history, after moving up two spots to No. 4 in the Associated Press Top 25. The Cowgirls entered the AP Top 10 for the first time in history on Monday.
The 2009-10 Huskers have rolled to the longest winning streak in school history at 19 games, which is the second-longest active streak in the nation, trailing only defending national champion UConn’s 60-game streak. NU also owns the 12th-longest home winning streak in the country at 14 games.
The Huskers enter the week at the top of the Big 12 standings with a 6-0 conference mark for the first time in school history, while Oklahoma State is just a half-game back in sole possession of second place at 6-1. Nebraska was the preseason pick to finish sixth in the Big 12 this year by league coaches, while Oklahoma State was picked to finish ninth.
