news2

First Aired January 19th

Nebraska senior Yvonne Turner captured the first Big 12 Player-of-the-Week award of her career by averaging 21.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 3.5 steals and 5.5 three-pointers per game, while leading the No. 7 Husker women’s basketball teams to a pair of wins over top-20 teams last week.
Turner, a 5-8 guard from Omaha, Neb., poured in a season-high 22 points on a career-high six three-pointers to help shoot the Huskers past No. 9 Baylor in Waco, Texas on Sunday. Turner added six rebounds, a season-high four steals and two assists in the 65-56 win over the No. 9 Lady Bears. Turner’s hot shooting helped the Huskers extend their school record winning streak to 16 games, while snapping BU’s 14-game home winning streak. Her performance also helped the Huskers match the school team record with 12 three-pointers, while giving NU the first win in school history over a top-10 opponent in a true road game.
Her performance against Baylor followed on the heels of a 21-point effort in Nebraska’s 91-79 win over No. 19 Texas on Tuesday at the Devaney Center.
Turner and the Huskers return to action this Saturday when they play host to Kansas State at the Devaney Center. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. with a “Pepsi Pack the House” promotion providing $1 general admission tickets.
