Kansas City, MO - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that a total of 212 football student-athletes have been named 2009 Daktronics-NAIA Football Scholar-Athletes. Nominated by each institution‘s head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify.
The Peru State Football team had nine members off the 2009 squad receive this year’s honors. The Bobcats the 2009 campaign with an overall record of 7-4.
The team was led by four seniors that included, Anthony Janssen (OL) of Auburn, NE, Lance Meyer (OL) of Johnson, NE, Derek Derr (LB) of Maitland, MO, and Cody Wallinger (WR) of Odell, NE.
Five juniors were named scholar-athlete which included Shane Mathis (WR) of Mitchell, NE, Curtis Thompson (QB) of Battle Creek, NE, Nick Kraft (LB) of Falls City, NE, Nate Jeter (RB) of Tarkio, MO, and Troy Nelson (LB) of Valentine, NE.
